Flight Centre’s wholesaler Infinity Holidays has reportedly made a number of its staff redundant after it shut down its hotel API business.

According to several industry sources, the redundancies were made a couple of weeks ago with at least 5-6 people let go. General manager James Whiting was made redundant in December last year.

Whiting wrote in a Linkedin post: “After nearly 13 years with Flight Centre Travel Group & Infinity Holidays I’ve recently been made redundant – just in time for the holiday season. While the timing was unexpected, I’m incredibly proud of the work I’ve done, particularly in building a profitable business from the ground up twice, shaping strategy, implementing revenue management and pricing frameworks, and developing a strategic third-party supplier network that didn’t exist when I first joined.”

Infinity’s GM James Whiting departed just before Christmas.

One source said that the entire business is being closed, however this has been denied by Flight Centre Travel Group.

Senior staff at Infinity Holidays include Les Nelson (director of customer experience), Kevin Looney (director of sales), Megan Lowe (business leader) and Clea Harbison (head of marketing).

The Infinity Holidays brand only relaunched in September 2023 after being removed during the pandemic in 2020.

Infinity Holidays returns in major rebrand for The Travel Junction

In August 2020, Flight Centre Travel Group revealed that it would be streamlining its product support areas and would be integrating Infinity Holidays into a centralised agent support hub.

In 2023, it reversed that decision when The Travel Junction revealed that it would be rebranding into Infinity Holidays.

“When looking to rebrand and take The Travel Junction to the next level, it made sense to bring back a brand the industry knows and loves, in Infinity Holidays,” general manager James Whiting said at the time.

Since relaunching, Infinity Holidays has had several wins. It was recently shortlisted for the best wholesaler award at the 2024 NTIA Awards and it was also named as the preferred wholesaler for Envoyage back in October 2024.

In a response to a Travel Weekly inquiry Flight Centre Group said in a statement:

“Due to a number of factors, Flight Centre Travel Group made the strategic decision to wind down its hotel API business in December last year. This does not affect the broader Infinity Holidays business which remains operational. We can confirm a small number of employees were impacted and that we worked closely with them to ensure they were appropriately supported throughout the process.

“For customers and suppliers, FCTG will maintain and honour any bookings already made but not yet travelled, and the Support Team can be contacted for assistance.”
